Duke University Profile
Reputation
"Duke University Medical Center is one of the crown jewels of American medicine," writes Nancy Gibbs in Time magazine (Oct. 12, 1998).
Located in Durham, North Carolina, the medical school and hospital were endowed in 1925 by James Buchanan Duke to assist the underserved rural areas of North Carolina. Less than four years after opening in 1930, Duke ranked among the top twenty medical schools in the country. Duke is now considered one of the best medical centers in America.
