How It Works - Five Steps to Better Health

Step One: Online “Personal Health Assessment” Questionnaire

Each individual’s first step is to complete the confidential online questionnaire, developed by wellness experts to identify individual health risk factors. No physical exam is required, and each user’s privacy is protected in our secure Web site. Completing the questionnaire is easy - even computer novices find the format simple and intuitive.

Step Two: Personal Wellness Program

Once the questionnaire is complete, the system automatically ascertains the most significant health risk factors and selects a series of lessons geared to each individual’s specific needs. A series of Charts and Reports provide easy-to-understand information about specific Health Concerns and Disease Risks – all in a format designed to help people reach a “Readiness-to-Change” mindset. ActivHealth’s PHD Network is the only service of its kind to personalize a wellness program for each individual user. Thanks to advanced software, program selection and assignment is fast, accurate, and completely private.

Step Three: Individual Participation

Once a Personal Wellness Program is created, individuals can access their program 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from any location in the world. It’s like having a personal trainer at their fingertips. Participants can take classes, update their health profile, review related health news, and monitor their own progress. The PHD Network contains a rich library of information on virtually every subject related to health and wellness. The multimedia format is fun to use and promotes learning much better than other “text only” sources. Animated illustrations make key points clear, and the language is easy to understand. And best of all, to ensure accuracy, every PHD health lesson is developed and reviewed by experts at Duke University Medical Center. Plus the information is periodically updated as new information and medical findings emerge! The PHD Network is organized around the five essential elements of wellness:

  1. Health Education – about disease conditions and symptoms
  2. Stress Management – to reduce health risks
  3. Nutrition – including proper dietary guidelines and healthy recipes
  4. Exercise and Fitness – demonstrating proper form and promoting individual progress
  5. Personal Development – designed to improve interpersonal relationships and communication skills

In addition to their Personal Wellness Program, individuals have access to the entire library of health and wellness information created by experts at Duke University!

Step Four. Automatic Tracking and Feedback Reports

ActivHealth’s unique proprietary software monitors each individual’s participation and produces regular progress reports. Wellness experts have learned that frequent progress reports help strengthen an individual’s long-term commitment to achieving goals. At the group level, these feedback reports help sponsoring companies track compliance and gauge how well the program is working. These web-enabled reports contain information on participant activity, the number of lessons completed, and incentive points earned. Aggregate reports on health risk profiles for the entire population as a whole are also available at the sponsor level. Individual privacy is protected throughout the process.

Step Five. Incentives

ActivHealth’s unique software automatically tallies incentive points earned as individuals progress through their Personal Wellness Programs. At key stages, individuals will redeem their points for sponsor provided rewards. Incentives have been proven to increase participation rates and reinforce long-term behavior change. ActivHealth can provide suggestions for designing the most effective incentive programs.
